Getting Water on the Fire
We operate in a visual society today, which makes having accurate and highly visible displays important on the various devices we control. When designing a fire apparatus it’s very important to consider the layout of the pump panel for functionality as well as visual appearance. A cluttered panel can introduce confusion which could impact operations. Electronic devices should include day and night modes to provide that pleasing aesthetic in both atmospheres, and displays must be visible from a wide range of angles due to the different functional positions and physical attributes of each operator.
In firefighting operations getting the right flow on the fire is absolutely critical for not only extinguishing the fire but also protecting the interior crews. Flowmeters eliminate the need for rule-of-thumb calculations that can change during the operation as attack lines are repositioned throughout the structure. When specifying a flowmeter you must consider the accuracy of the flowmeter and the ability to maintain accuracy through a wide range of flows.
An interior attack crew relies on having water to perform their operations, the tank level gauge provides the pump operator an indication of how much water is remaining. The accuracy of this gauge affects all operations and needs to stay consistent as the water drains from the many different shapes of tanks in the industry. The FRC Insight flowmeters and TankVision Pro tank level gauges are used by the largest fire departments in the world and have a proven track record of accuracy.
